Mikuniya is completing diverse projects through best use of surveys, measurements and diagnostic technologies to understand the present situation, represent the past situation and predict and evaluate the future situation, according to information obtained from digitalization of diverse events in nature. Prompt, highly accurate and high-quality measurement and diagnostic technologies are required in this work.

■Comprehensive Disaster Prevention Project
In Japan, safety measures for constructing infrastructures for safe regional societies have been developed due to the frequency of sudden catastrophic disasters and the ongoing threat of large-scale earthquakes. To promote these measures, improvement of integrated regional disaster prevention by industry-government-academia cooperation is essential. We support diverse disaster prevention measures using software designed to enhance disaster prevention.

■Business Continuity Planning (BCP)
Business Continuity Planning (BCP) is undertaken to determine procedures for ongoing activities and business continuity in case of risks, including disasters and accidents. The aims of BCP are to minimize the damage to business properties, continue core business, and ensure prompt recovery from disasters/accidents. Business continuity is an important strategic issue at a managerial level, arising from concerns over potential client leakage, decline in market share, erosion of trust, and decrease in valuation.

  ■Marine Surveys
Surveys for water depth and bathymetric features are essential for improvement of sea routes and ports. These can be measured three dimensionally in real time using GPS instruments and digital depth finders.

■Surveys on Bathymetric Features and Riverbed Topographies
Situations on sea bottoms and riverbeds can be represented as real-time images by using side scan sonar. Side scan sonar is most appropriate for real-time, extensive surveys such as urgent investigations for disaster prevention for harbor facilities, mapping of massively growing seaweed beds (green circles shown in the right figure) and distribution surveys of surface sediments.
The body of the side scan sonar is small, compact and easy to carry. Results can be analyzed with various combined data on GPS.

■Calculations on Topographical Changes in Sea Bottoms
Problems of port sedimentation and coastal erosion are important in making proposals for conservation and planning of coasts and harbors.
We make proposals and review countermeasures for construction using detailed predictive calculations on profiles of waves, shore currents and topographical changes by using a quasi, three-dimensional seashore modification model.

■Bridge Inspections
We provide complete bridge inspection services: field surveys, facility inspections, report compilation and detailed survey proposals. We use special, raised vehicles for inspections, draw traffic regulation maps, and apply for all necessary permits.

■Safety Inspection of Harbor Facilities
For maintenance and management of harbor facilities composed of various materials, including reinforced concrete and complex structures, we provide visual inspections for corrosion, deterioration, damage and rebar arrangements by combining appropriate methods. Based on the comprehensive evaluation obtained from these services, we also make repair and maintenance plans and examine appropriate methods for respective sites.

Seismic Capacity Evaluation for Buildings
Since the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake, seismic capacity evaluations have been conducted on many buildings and evaluations used to increase the capacity of buildings to withstand earthquakes. Life extension work of public assets will be highlighted in coming decades.

■Urgent Investigations Related to Landslides
Landslide and mudflow disasters are caused by torrential rains and earthquakes in many parts of Japan. To deal with such disasters, we conduct rapid investigations in devastated areas, and take proactive measures and make future sabo plans that take into account the disaster’s characteristics.

■Forest Resources Monitoring
In the field of erosion and sediment controls, we determine sedimentation conditions by combining surveys on streams/hillsides and respective tree measurements and formulate disaster prevention and erosion control plans taking into account water-holding capabilities and forest resources of affected areas.
